Where to Find Live Music in Norfolk, VA

Norfolk’s live music scene is rapidly growing, bringing out local musicians and touring bands from across the nation. We were even recognized for our city’s music buzz. Classic rock, indie folk, even smooth jazz, there is a genre and a show for everyone. When you’re in the area, check out the following venues for a feel of the Norfolk music scene. From the large venues to the intimate, the music will always please. Music lovers, unite!

The NorVa

Did you know the NorVa was named the No.1 concert venue in the country by a Rolling Stone readers’ poll? The NorVA is Norfolk’s largest concert venue, with shows featuring top of the chart musicians and bands. The NorVa Theatre first opened in 1917 as a Vaudeville theater, and later thrived as a premier movie theatre. Now, The NorVa is one of the most popular concert destinations in the area.

Toast

One of Norfolk’s favorite hangouts, Toast, is the official host of LavaMinifest. LAVA MiniFest books awesome local bands, along with musicians from afar. Famed performers such as Minus the Bear and the late Charles Bradley have performed at LavaFest events, along with a variety of bands. The highly anticipated pop-up concerts are ones to keep an eye out for.

Grain

Norfolk’s only rooftop beer garden serves up more than just tasty pints. Grain also offers live music every Wednesday through Sunday. No matter what you like to groove to, from DJs, rock, country or acoustics, Grain plays it all.

Waterside District

The best downtown waterfront live music venue would have to be Waterside District. The stage’s backdrop is the Elizabeth River and with free weekly concerts during the summer what more could you want? Performances range from locally loved bands to popular musicians, like Chase Rice and Eli Young Band.  Waterside has multiple patios that the concerts can be seen and heard from and outdoor games at Blue Moon Taphouse to entertain you while you listen.

Norfolk Taphouse

Punk rock, garage rock, and heavy metal lovers, Norfolk Taphouse is your spot. Taphouse provides ground for local bands and has been a regular stop for national and regional touring acts since 1995.
