Accounting Manager

VisitNorfolk is looking for a proactive, self-motivated, well-organized and detail-oriented Accounting Manager to provide principal support to the Chief Financial Officer to maintain financial controls on the payables, receivables, purchasing, and payroll systems.

Responsibilities include:

  • Maintain and monitor the separate cash, accounts payable, and accounts receivable databases for VisitNorfolk (VN) and Norfolk Tourism Foundation (NTF).
  • Reconcile certain general ledger accounts, and participate in month-end and year-end close.
  • Prepare and process bi-weekly payroll and maintain payroll records.
  • Assist the Chief Financial Officer in the enforcement of the Bureau’s Accounting policies, practices, and internal control procedures.
  • Assist with the in-house training of staff on accounting policies, internal control procedures, and accounting software.
  • Review and post regular in-kind activities for VN and NTF.
  • Reconcile monthly sales tax filing.
  • Assist with the Mermaid Market inventory reconciliation.
  • Prepare and submit annual 1099 Statements to vendors and IRS for VN and NTF.
  • Monitor and maintain postage machine meter funds and supplies.
  • Additional tasks assigned by the Chief Financial Officer.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business, or Finance
  • 3+ years of accounting manager experience required, preferably not-for-profit
  • CPA or CPA candidate preferred
  • Understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
  • Proven analytical skills
  • Familiarity with Concur, ADP Workforce Now, and Blackbaud’s Financial Edge preferred
  • Solid working knowledge of computers, accounting and online software, and spreadsheet applications

Visitor Information Specialist

Hours: Part-time, 10 – 20 hours a week

Position Summary: VisitNorfolk is looking for a dynamic, outgoing individual to represent Norfolk and the surrounding Coastal Virginia area to tourists, visitors and local residents alike from our brand new, state-of-the-art Mobile Visitor Center. This position requires the operation of a company-owned motor vehicle and extensive knowledge of the local area; specifically, the amenities and attractions that the City of Norfolk has to offer. Work involves providing detailed and accurate directions to area hotels, restaurants, attractions and businesses with the use of maps and/or the internet, as well as preparing, stocking and selling merchandise.

This position requires daytime, evening, weekend, and holiday availability based on the event, festival, and conference schedules.

Qualifications: Must be at least 21 years old to apply and have a valid driver’s license. Good communication skills and an outgoing personality are necessary as well as the ability to lift up to 50lbs and stand for extended periods of time. General knowledge of Apple i-products and other basic technology preferred. Customer Service skills and retail experience are also preferred.

Internship Opportunities Available

Marketing/PR Intern:

This position is a hands-on role that works directly with the Communications Manager, Marketing Manager, Content Creator and Director of Marketing and Communications. The intern will assist the team with adding events and editing pages on the VisitNorfolk.com website, in-design projects for the sales team, research on journalists and bloggers, asset gathering for social media and more.

Norfolk Tourism Foundation Intern 

The focus of this internship will be the solicitation of the NTF Annual Gourmet Golf Tournament and procurement of in-kind donations for the silent auction packages, raffle items and other giveaway prizes. Additional duties will include working with the Convention Services & Visitors Information departments. Our goal is for the intern to gain a breadth of knowledge about non-profit fundraising, the Hospitality and Tourism industry, and the City of Norfolk.

Opportunities are available in Convention Services, Marketing, Public Relations and Sales Departments.
